Hair Question: Protective Styles For Neck Length Hair

Thursday, July 23, 2009

Question:

"My hair is a little past NL, it doesn't fit into buns properly...it actually looks ridiculous....can you suggest another protective style for neck length hair?"
Advice: The answer is quick and simple. Neck length hair doesn't necessarily need to be protected in the form of buns. The hair is not long enough to the point where it's brushing against clothing and other elements causing breakage, so there's no real need to begin protective styling as yet. Once the hair is shoulder length and beyond, then you can begin to protective style the hair/ends.

In the meantime, opt for low manipulation styles i.e. twist outs, braid outs, braids, pin curls, wigs, weave etc. These styles will add more character to your do. If you're not feeling the options above, you can always add cute accessories i.e. headbands, pin up your ends in a fancy clip and go!

  2. Thanks I was wondering too...but I can get my hair into a nice little ponytail now but not a bun yet! But I'm happy about my little ponytial! Currently I'm doing braid out in front and 1/2 wig in the back which is perfect for me now with swimming and co-washing often!

I have to disagree! Especially if you live in a city like Miami where the sun is alwasy shining! I protect my ends in cornrows like this: http://bit.ly/18c0h9

Of course, you're braid might be tighter than the girl's in the picture. Then you can pin the ends under the braid. Chic. And it may last you two days, lol.

  5. Im not sure why people are saying they cant get their hair in a bun. My hair is neck length and I get a nice size bun, I just pull my hair up like im going to put it in a ponytail then I wrap it under with a scunchy and my buns always look full.

  6. My hair's about SL and I wear a little bitty teeny weenie bun. At first, I wore ponytails because I thought my lil bun was too small and worried what people thought. But now, I tell myself that I have to go after what I want. I want thick, long hair, and a few months of a small bun is worth it, and I already got a boyfriend, so who am I tryna empress? lol

  7. my hair is just below neck length and i put my hair in a pony then I buy 12inch weave hair wrap weave around the pony using hair pins, you can leave down or wound into a bun, this works great for me until my own hair grows out.
