My First Impression: Lusters Pink Shea Butter Coconut Oil Line

The lovely people over at Lusters Products Inc. sent me over some new hair goodies and I just had to share!! As you may or may not know, I am a huge fan of Lusters Products Inc. as they are the ones who created my staple moisturizer, Scurl No Drip Activator. With that in mind, I am excited to receive the new Shea Butter Coconut oil, paraben free, mineral oil free product line. Seems like they've re-branded themselves and I'm curious to see what these products have in store!

....Okay so they sent me over a ton of products! I had to group them by numbers to share my first impression of each product.

#1 Pink Shea Butter Coconut Oil Hot Oil Treatments - These are 10 in 1 hot oil treatments promoting a self heating formula enriched with natural oils i.e. Vitamin E, Jojoba seed oil, Castor oil, Coconut oil, Grapeseed oil, Shea Butter etc.   The blend of natural oils sounds pretty good! Based on the directions, you apply it to damp hair and leave it on for 10-15 mins - no need to shampoo after!

#2 Pink Shea Butter Coconut Oil Sulfate Free Shampoo -  The shampoo has a very fresh "coconuty/fruity" scent. I love how its opaque in colour (typically means its non-drying). It has Hydrolyzed Keratin and Collagen Amino Acids in the ingredients which aid in strengthening the hair while lubricating the strands with natural oils i.e. Coconut oil, Olive oil, Jojoba oil etc.

  • Pink Shea Butter Coconut Oil Moisturizing & Silkening Conditioner - The conditioner is white in colour and slightly thin in consistency with the same fresh "coconuty" scent - though it is mild. The directions state that you can deep condition with this product for 10+ mins with heat & a plastic cap! There's nothing but straight moisture and a few of my fav ingredients in this conditioner i.e. Glycerin, Cetearyl Alcohol, Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Polyquaternium-37 etc. just to name a few.
  • Pink Shea Butter Coconut Oil Silkening Leave-in Conditioner - States that it will hydrate, detangle, soften and add slip. The creme is white in colour and slippy between the fingers. I love the fact that it has Glycerin, Panthenol and Marshmallow root extract! These ingredients are known to hydrate and detangle natural or relaxed hair!

#3 Pink Jojoba & Grapeseed Oil (Daily Treatment), Apricot Oil (Ultra Light Treatment), Castor Oil (Nourishing Treatment), Tea Tree Oil (Therapeutic Treatment) - These oils are not 100% pure as they do have other oils added to them i.e. Soybean oil, Argan oil etc. I will probably mix them into the deep conditioner for extra TLC.

#4 Pink Shea Butter Coconut Oil Edge Smoother Gel - Claims to have lasting hold and brilliant shine. I have tested this out on my edges and it seems to have a "medium/light hold" on my 2/3 weeks post relaxed hair. I will have to test it out again when I'm further into my stretch.  The edge smoother has a very mild fresh scent.

#5 Pink Shea Butter Coconut Oil Detangling Co-wash Cleansing Conditioner - Very thick and rich in consistency compared to the Silkening conditioner and leave-in. This co-wash has similar ingredients to that of a drug store instant conditioner i.e. Aussie moist, Herbal essences etc. which totally agree with my hair! It will be interesting to see how this compares.

  • Pink Shea Butter Coconut Oil Curl & Twist Pudding - This product is supposed to stretch tight coils, provide hold and control frizz. Love the consistency of this product - very chunky with a jello like "shake" yet it melts easily into the hair. It's packed with interesting ingredients i.e. Kola nut seed extract, Aloe Vera Leaf extract, Lemongrass extract, Henna extract, Papaya fruit extract etc. I plan on using this for future twist-outs and braid-outs!
  • Pink Shea Butter Coconut Oil  Moisturizing Hair Lotion - Claims to seal in moisture, soften hair and control frizz. Now don't confuse this with the "Ol'skool Pink Lotion", though many may think they are one in the same - they are not!  This moisturizing lotion has no trace of mineral oil, in fact, it has some goodies i.e. Glycerin, Olive oil, Avocado oil, Coconut oil, Shea butter, Panthenol, etc. I know my hair doesn't typically like hair lotions, but we shall see :)
Thanks Lusters! xoxo
