Let's talk Deep Conditioning.

So, recently I've been getting a lot of questions on deep conditioning and how to do it the right way to get the MOST out of your deep conditioning sessions. Deep conditioning should be one of those never-to-be-missed type of steps in your hair care routine. No negotiating about it! It's an imperative step in increasing the health of your hair and there are so many benefits to deep conditioning:

Nourishes the hair

Reduces split ends

Makes your hair stronger

Improves elasticity

Gives your hair a boost in moisture

...Just to name a few!

Here are 5 Tips to Deep Condition, Effectively!

Apply in Sections.

Conditioner should be evenly distributed throughout your hair, that way no areas are neglected. Apply the conditioner to your hair in small sections. I like to create at least 5-6 sections and then apply my conditioner. This will ensure each strand is covered to receive all of the nutrients from your deep conditioner. You'll notice the difference!

Use a Heat Source.

Always aim to use a heat source when you deep condition. Why you ask? Well, heat helps to raise the cuticle layer allowing deeper penetration of the conditioner into the hair shaft. This is where the true hair repair takes place. Level up your deep conditioning sessions and grab yourself a heat cap, hooded dryer or hair steamer. This will add a boost in moisture and improve your elasticity. Your hair will love you for it! Trust me.

Focus on the Ends, First!

The ends of the hair should get first dibs when it comes to applying your deep conditioner! They are the oldest part of your hair and require the most attention, care and love. Apply your deep conditioner to the ends, first, that way you won't forget, and they'll soak up all the rich ingredients...first!

Frequency is Vital.

How often you deep condition is important, especially if your hair is dry, brittle, damaged or chemically treated. Aim to deep condition once a week! This will help replenish lost nutrients, prevent dehydration and increase the strength in your strands. Weekly conditioning will build your hair’s defense against breakage, increase length retention and improve the overall health of your hair.

It needs time to Work.

Deep conditioners need time to work! Once you’ve applied your deep conditioner in sections, cover your hair with a plastic cap and leave it on for at least 15-30mins with a heat source i.e. Heat cap.

No heat source? No worries!

Leave it on for 45mins - 1hr. Be sure to cover your hair with a couple plastic caps to really trap in the heat. This will leave your hair feeling manageable, hydrated and soft!

BONUS: Rinse out your deep conditioner with cool water. Cool water aids in closing the hair cuticles to lock in the nutrients from your deep conditioner improving shine and smoothness while decreasing tangles.

That's it. Super simple, yet effective.

Make deep conditioning your friend and watch your hair transform!

Ready to level up your deep conditioning sessions? For me, it went by wayyyy too fast. I took a nice break from creating content to instead, creating memories and having fun with the Hubby and kids all Summer long. It's been such a blessed time :)

Anyway, had to come with a hair update for the girls because I’ve been getting a ton of questions, so here we are!!! As of right now, I'm still using the Affirm Conditioning Relaxer in Normal Strength and I love ittt. I use this system once every 12-14 weeks - so roughly 4 touch-ups per year.

Freshly Washed, Deep Conditioned and Revair'd

My regimen hasn't changed much. I'm still in the business of repeating what works and keeping things simple. I still wash and deep condition (with heat) weekly. Typically, I'll add in my 3PO's (Avocado, Coconut, Olive Oil) or JBCO into my deep conditioners for added benefits. Lately, I've been doing my protein treatments monthly (might increase to biweekly again), I moisturize and seal every other day along with scalp massages, and I protective style as often as I can i.e. buns, HBWs, wigs etc. Oh and since it's warm outside, I've thrown in co-washing sessions to keep my hair hydrated and clean. It's been super easy and predictable!

As for products I'm loving, let me back track a bit. Since the beginning of 2023, its been my intention to replace my staple protein conditioner, Aphogee 2 Minute Reconstructor, with something just as good without the presence of Formaldehyde in the ingredients. It took quite some time to experiment and see what truly works, but I've narrowed it down and introduced a couple new protein based conditioners into my regimen.

For starters, I've been loving the Joico K-Pak Reconstructing Conditioner. I used this in my Relaxer Day Vlog as a protein treatment in preparation for my relaxer back in Mar/Apr 2023. It has Hydrolyzed Keratin towards the top of the ingredient list, which is a plus. It strengthens and smooths my cuticles at the same time. I ALSO love the "sister conditioner" to that, it's called Joico K-PAK Hydrator Intense Treatment. I know, it sounds like it should be a 'moisture based conditioner' but 'round here, we read ingredients first, and the ingredients dictate that this is a protein based conditioner. Why? Well, it's laden with Hydrolyzed Keratin Protein (it ranks 7th in the ingredient list) and it's higher up on the ingredient list than Aphogee 2 Min Reconstructor - so that's a win. I mix it with my Coconut oil as a prepoo prior to shampooing for 25-30 mins (with or without heat) or after a clarify/shampoo session. The only CON I would say is that the bottle is kind of small in size and it's a little harder to find in stores...but it's so worth it! My hair feels very strong after each use and breakage has drastically minimized.

These products have never stirred me wrong! I haven't found a complete replacement for Scurl but these moisturizers are getting me through each relaxer stretch. I have a little secret though. There is a S-Curl No Drip product "dupe" that I found and currently testing out. So far I’m loving the way it makes my hair feel. It’s giving Scurl vibes all dayyy. I’m pleased with the ingredients and it keeps my new growth and relaxed hair moist and happy. I can’t wait to share it with you guys. I will continue to test it out to see if it officially gets my stamp of approval. I think I’m heading in that direction. Once I make my final decision, I will definitely share, so look out for that shortly :) I also adore the Camille Rose Naturals Cocoa Nibs and Honey Growth Oil for my night time scalp massages. I find that my new growth comes in full force when I use this as part of my scalp massage routine every other night (or whenever I remember lol). It has a sweet fragrance, awesome ingredients, very light in consistency and it doesn't irritate my scalp - ever!

RevAir on Relaxed Hair

As for tools, I'm now a RevAir girl! Yup, you read that right. RevAir has made its entrance into my hair routine and it’s been such a treat on wash day. I will admit it’s kind of a bulky (lol) tool to lug around and maneuver but it’s such a game changer. It lengthens my hair and new growth pretty well without the risk of heat damage. I love using tension level #7 on the low heat setting (#2/3) to achieve a smooth, straighter appearance, if I don’t feel like air drying. This tool has definitely helped me stretch my relaxers even further. I'm also thinking that the Revair may eliminate the need to flat iron on relaxer day - what do you think? I typically like to pick one heat source and run with it. I'll try it out and see :)

Click here to grab your RevAir NOW!

Affirm Conditioning Relaxer - Normal Strength

If you've been following me for a while, you know that I recently made the switch from ORS Olive Oil Relaxer (Lye) to Affirm Conditioning Relaxer (Lye). If you're one of my YT subscribers, then you would have seen my last relaxer day video explaining why I re-visited Affirm - who knew I was using the system wrong?!? *rolls eyes* lol. So, in addition to me using it incorrectly, there are a couple other reason's as to why I decided to make the switch over to Affirm:

Number #1, my Avlon distributer informed me that I was using the system incorrectly. I was using the mid-step conditioner (Affirm Positive Link) twice within my relaxer session causing an over-processed appearance 3-4 weeks into my relaxer stretch. This mid-step conditioner is packed with ceramides which strengthen and fortify the hair. Overuse of strengthening ingredients, on relaxer day, can cause slight reversion. Since taking her advice, and doing the relaxer process in the correct order, my results are way more favourable with a straighter appearance for a longer period of time!

Number #2, the quality of ingredients. This relaxer system is LOADED with conditioning (Argan oil, Pequi oil, Cupuacu butter, etc.) and strengthening (Keratin) agents from start to finish. This system makes my hair feel soft, fortified, conditioned and smooth as if I had a moisture-based wash day. I kid you not! I've said this before, and I'll say it again...relaxer day with Affirm feels like a regular wash day. There’s no harsh relaxer scent (which I appreciate) and the texture of the relaxer gives off a very whipped creamy consistency. I think this is why the relaxer is so conditioning. Not only that, but I reached out to Dr. Syed, the chemist at Avlon, and he advised that all of their products (including relaxers) do not contain any phthalates or endocrine disruptors, so that's a huge plus!

Number #3, colour indicator neutralizing shampoo! No brainer right? I know. It's been a total game changer and time saver in my relaxer day routine. I no longer do the "5, 5, 10 Rule" with this relaxer system, for obvious reasons, and as a result my hair remains much more hydrated and softer. Did I mention it's pH balanced? Girl. It gives me silky-smooth-closed cuticles every time!

Don't get me wrong, ORS Olive Oil was, and still is, a good relaxer system. I just wanted to use a comprehensive relaxer system, with quality ingredients, where each product compliments each other and prioritizes the health of my hair - from start to finish. So far, I've been pretty happy with the change!

In case you're wondering, after I neutralize, I still use a sulfate-free shampoo and deep condition. I’ve been so bad with hairstyles lately though lol. I don't do much to my hair - I leave it alone. I just prefer simple clean looks ie. middle part & down, low bun, high bun, braid-out occasionally etc. Less is more, for me at least.

So that's the latest! hair is constantly breaking! How can I fix this?"

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: 13.5pt;">This is probably one of
the MOST frequently asked questions I receive on a weekly basis. To be honest, it's
such a tricky question to answer because everyone's hair is unique and there's a
ton of variables to consider, but it's a valid question that deserves an
explanation or two.

<span style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 13.5pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-font-kerning: 0pt; mso-ligatures: none;">First things first, breakage is inevitable. It will happen,
and that's okay. <— Read that again if you need to!

<span style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 13.5pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-font-kerning: 0pt; mso-ligatures: none;">There is no such person, race or hair type that is exempt
from this. Hair breakage is your hair's way of
letting you know that something is off and for you to address your hair's needs
accordingly. With healthy balanced hair, you'll notice a decrease in the amount
of breakage you receive and an increase in length retention.

that there are several key factors that you should avoid being guilty of, if you
want to grow your relaxed hair long and healthy.

Moisture Deficiency<span style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 13.5pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-font-kerning: 0pt; mso-ligatures: none;">

<span style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 13.5pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-font-kerning: 0pt; mso-ligatures: none;">This is hair that is super dry, rough, and brittle! Your
hair is snapping and popping off into tiny piece everywhere you turn with
little to no manipulation. Why? Well, dry moisture deprived hair lacks
elasticity. This is a result of your hair not receiving adequate moisture
levels for your hair type. Elasticity is an indicator of your hair's health. If
you can't stretch a strand and have it return to its previous length and shape,
then we have a problem. Hydration and moisture should be the cornerstone of
your hair regimen until your hair is restored and balanced. <span style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: 13.5pt;">The question is how can you fix moisture deficient hair?
Simple. Up your moisture levels.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: 13.5pt;">Here are some ways to do that:

low moisture regimen is a recipe for dryness and breakage. Be sure to read
your product ingredient labels in search for moisture-based ingredients.
Overusing protein-based products (products containing hydrolyzed silk, keratin,

Protein Deficiency

<span style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 13.5pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-font-kerning: 0pt; mso-ligatures: none;">

<span style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 13.5pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-font-kerning: 0pt; mso-ligatures: none;">Protein deficient hair is overly stretchy, limp, and weak!
This is a result of excess moisture in the hair causing the hair structure to
be overly elastic. Without adequate structure in the hair, the hair can be
prone to breakage. I know protein gets a bad rep in the haircare world, but
it's so necessary for balanced healthy hair. Protein binds to the cuticles and
penetrates deep within the cortex to heal the hair from the inside out. A lack of protein
in the hair can compromise the hair structure, increase weak strands, cause thinning, and promote breakage. <span style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: 13.5pt;">So how can you fix protein deficient hair? Easy. Give your
hair a dose of protein every so often when you notice the symptoms above.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: 13.5pt;">

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: 13.5pt;">Here are some ways to incorporate

protein conditioner/reconstructor biweekly or monthly, depending on your
hair's needs. Always follow up with a moisture based deep conditioner for

seriously. Over manipulating your hair and constantly adding stress to your strands will lead to breakage. Pulling, tugging, tension, and friction is a recipe for disaster. Over manipulating your hair will put<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: 18px;"> you further and further away from your hair goals.<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: 18px;"> <span style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: 13.5pt;"> Less is

Lack of Protection<span style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 13.5pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-font-kerning: 0pt; mso-ligatures: none;">

of your hair/ends, leads to healthier longer hair. We all know that the ends are
the oldest part of the hair. They are porous, fragile and require more care to see
length. With that being said, it's vital that we protect our ends from the
elements, i.e. clothing, environment etc., as much as possible. Going to bed without
proper protection, i.e. satin scarf, bonnet or satin pillow case - is a
problem. Wearing your hair down and having it rub against harsh clothing - is a
problem. Using heat appliances without heat protection - is a problem. Not
giving your ends a break from daily wear and tear - is a problem.

<span style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 13.5pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-font-kerning: 0pt; mso-ligatures: none;">Here are a couple ways to protect your hair for healthier hair:

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 13.5pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-font-kerning: 0pt; mso-ligatures: none;">wear a satin
bonnet/scarf/pillowcase to bed

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 13.5pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-font-kerning: 0pt; mso-ligatures: none;">wear smooth fabrics when wearing your hair down

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 13.5pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-font-kerning: 0pt; mso-ligatures: none;">use a heat
protectant every time you use direct heat

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 13.5pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-font-kerning: 0pt; mso-ligatures: none;">throw your hair
into a tension free protective style - frequently

<span style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 13.5pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-font-kerning: 0pt; mso-ligatures: none;">5. Not Removing Product Build Up<span style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 13.5pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-font-kerning: 0pt; mso-ligatures: none;">

<span style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 13.5pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-font-kerning: 0pt; mso-ligatures: none;">Believe it or not, product build up can inhibit your
hair cuticles from accepting additional products possibly leaving your hair
dry, dull, and rough. Blocked cuticles and dryness will lead to breakage. Product buildup and
residue can leave the hair feeling weighed down. The cuticles are
unable to breathe, the hair becomes unmanageable, and it begins to suffer. If
you notice that your hair is lacking shine, tangled/matted, constantly
breaking, difficult to comb, constantly dry or rough - you need to clarify your
hair asap. Clarifying your hair with a sulfate shampoo will rid your hair of
product, residue, dirt, and buildup allowing your cuticles to breathe and
accept product. Removing buildup monthly will give your hair a clean slate
allowing your hair to hold on to moisture, feel softer, smoother and much more manageable.

<span style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 13.5pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-font-kerning: 0pt; mso-ligatures: none;">BONUS: <span style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 13.5pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-font-kerning: 0pt; mso-ligatures: none;">

<span style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 13.5pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-font-kerning: 0pt; mso-ligatures: none;">6. Neglecting Your Trims<span style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 13.5pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-font-kerning: 0pt; mso-ligatures: none;">

<span style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 13.5pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-font-kerning: 0pt; mso-ligatures: none;">Failing to trim when it's needed is
setting yourself up for future disappointment. Neglecting your trims for the
sake of temporary ‘length’ isn't worth it in the long run. Why? Well, missing
your trims can cause your split ends to get worse. Unkempt ends can lead to
further splits causing tangles, breakage and eventually thinning. Maintaining a
trim schedule that rids your ends of thinning, splits, single strand knots etc.
is crucial in preventing breakage. I highly suggest doing light dustings every month (taking off 1/4" of an inch) and trim with
every relaxer or every 12-14 weeks (taking off 1/2-1" inch).

<span style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 13.5pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-font-kerning: 0pt; mso-ligatures: none;">Don't avoid your trims, choose health over length - always!
Hairlicious Inc.http://www.blogger.com/profile/12963151018326098709noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1092996284303546686.post-64686055305464816202023-04-24T11:09:00.005-04:002023-04-24T11:15:17.918-04:00RELAXER DAY VLOG | Protein Wash Day, Relaxer Prep, Affirm Relaxer Routine, Flat Iron, Trim + MORE!

Welcome back to another video, sis. Yes, you read correctly and I'm so excited to share this with YOU.

Frequently, I receive questions, DMs, emails, comments etc. from ladies on how they can start their journey, the products and tools they should get, and the best tips kick start their journey. With that in mind, I created a Healthy Hair Care Checklist for my ladies who are starting or revamping their healthy hair journey and in dire need of direction!

This checklist was made for the newbies in mind - even for those who are natural or returning back to relaxed hair! It's so easy to get side tracked and overwhelmed with the types of products and tools needed for a successful regimen. However, this checklist will help narrow things down to the fundamentals of what produces healthier hair!

<img alt="Healthy Hair Care Checklist - FREE! I literally thought this was 'normal' until I came across ladies on the hair forums, back in the day, who had hair that was the TOTAL OPPOSITE of mine. Their hair was down their backs, thick, luscious and most importantly - HEALTHY!

At that moment, I knew everything I had been doing to my hair was completely wrong and change needed to take place asap. My hair demanded TLC and lotsss of it. I was a victim of over-processed hair for many many years and didn't even know it.

But what causes over-processed hair any way?

Over-processed hair can be the cause of frequent and misuse of relaxers, colour treatments, heat-styling tools, excessive manipulation etc. Your hair will feel weak, dry, brittle, stringy, and prone to breakage (basically damaged!).

My hair fit this description perfectly.

My frustration was at an all time high and tears were definitely shed! But my frustration led me to research, and my research revealed that there is light at the end of the tunnel!!

<img alt="Dealing With Over-Processed Hair? I got my hair trimmed immediately after making up my mind that I was going to take better care of my hair. My fresh ends gave me a clean slate to work with and automatically boosted my hair health! My ends were now even, appeared fuller and the breakage was minimized. Though, my thin ends were still present, they were no longer split. Instead of doing the big chop, I opted to trim my thin ends with each relaxer to eventually eliminate the over-processed scraggly ends overtime.

Scissors I use to Dust My Ends ↓ (Click Below):

Hair Shears

2) Spaced Out My Relaxers + Relax Correctly

Lets face it, doing a touch up every 6-8 weeks was the 'norm' for many of us relaxed hair ladies. This was my reality. Any time my new growth popped up, I relaxed my new growth like clockwork. Back then, it was basically that 'unwelcome guest' on my scalp that needed to bounce! LOL

Too, relaxing all the way down to my ends was a regular thing. Processing already processed hair made zero sense, but it was common culture. I mean, I used to sit in relaxer as if it was conditioner not knowing the damage this was causing. No wonder I had thin, weak, over-processed hair!? I had to unlearn all of this.

With time and research, I learned that spacing out my relaxers (every 10-12 weeks) and only processing my new growth (virgin hair), while coating the previously relaxed hair with hair grease, was the healthier way to go. My hair got a much needed break and instantly started to increase in fullness with each relaxer touch-up session. This was a game changer in my relaxer routine.

Relaxer I Use ↓ (Click Below) :

ORS Olive Oil Relaxer - Normal Strength

Dax Hair Grease

3) Invest in Quality Treatments/Tools

What's the saying? Put your money where your mouth is...well I did just that! I took the time to research ingredients, go to the Beauty Supply Store and invest in products that I knew would help me in achieving my hair goals.

Not only that, but I grabbed a hooded dryer, wide tooth comb, satin scarf/bonnet etc. to help promote healthier hair. I started using hair treatments, protein and moisture based products, leave-in conditioners which all contributed to the health of my hair.

These products gave my hair the strength, hydration and nourishment it needed in order to combat all the damage over the years. Honestly, I wish Olaplex was around back when I first started my relaxed hair journey because this salon quality product line was everything my hair needed and more!! If you can invest in Olaplex No. 0 + No. 3, I highly recommend it. It certainly takes the guess work out!

Treatment/Tool Faves ↓ (Click Below):

Olaplex No. 0 & No.3

Joico K Pak Reconstructor Treatment

Joico Moisture Recovery Balm

Hooded Dryer

Widetooth Comb

4) Deep Conditioning

This literally became my hair's best friend! Remember, over-processed hair is hair that is s t a r v e d of all its nutrients. Deep conditioning is the best method to feed your strands the nourishment it requires.

For me, deep conditioning after every shampoo was (and still is) mandatory! My coarse dense 4c hair requires it - period! Applying a hair mask, deep conditioner or treatment for 20-30 mins with a heat source on a weekly basis was probably one of the best things I did for my over-processed hair.

This routine not only kept my hair soft, smooth and manageable throughout the week but it helped to prevent breakage while increasing the thickness and overall health of my hair, overtime.

Deep Conditioner Faves ↓ (Click Below):

Keracare Humecto

Silk Elements Megasilk Cholesterol

Aussie Moist

Shea Moisture Intensive Hydration Hair Masque

TGIN Honey Miracle Mask

5) Protein Will Be Your Friend

Over-processed hair (especially fine hair) requires a dose of protein a little more frequently than hair that is healthier and balanced. My over-processed hair was always super fragile, dry and a tangled mess. Tangled hair and dryness is a common characteristic of over-processed hair as the cuticles have been lifted due to excessive heat styling, improper use of chemicals, etc.

Protein treatments fill in the gaps and openings along the hair shaft while helping to close the cuticles, increasing moisture retention and reducing tangles. Protein increases the hair's ability to accept and hold on to moisture - yup, you read that correctly! Because the gaps along the hair shaft are filled, your hair is better able to preserve moisture assisting you in retaining length. Yes, protein tends to make the hair a bit ridged and rough (this is normal) but following up with a moisture based deep conditioner is a life saver as it will help soften, increase elasticity and make the strands more manageable. Don't forget this step but don't over do it!

Also, hydrolyzed proteins infuse strength into the hair while increasing the diameter of the hair strand. Essentially, protein makes your hair look and feel thicker/fuller with each use. My hair got thicker in just 3 short months of incorporating protein in my hair regimen. This was the boost my hair needed!

Protein Faves ↓ (Click Below) :

Aphogee 2 Minute Reconstructor

ORS Hair Mayo

ORS Replenishing Conditioner

Shea Moisture JBCO Hair Masque

6) Lay Off The Heat Tools

Using flat irons, blow dryers, curling irons, etc. can make over-processed hair much worse. I was the type of person to apply heat to dirty hair, day-after-day *rolls eyes* Of course I saw no issue with it, but eventually I noticed my hair getting shorter and shorter year after year. I stopped using these hot tools and soon enough I started to notice a positive difference in the health of my hair.

I opted to air dry after each wash day and my hair has thanked me for it over and over. Giving your hair a much needed break from hot tools will give your strands a chance to rebuild, retain moisture and regain strength. I made a hard decision to save heat styling for special occasions or just relaxer day. Of course, I used it responsibly never forgetting my heat protectant but this sacrifice boosted the health of my hair, tremendously.

7) Pre-poo Before You Shampoo

It's so worth the extra effort!! Coating my hair with an oil/conditioner, or both, prior to shampooing was another small step in combating my over-processed hair. Pre-pooing made a difference because it provided an extra layer of conditioning benefits that my malnourished hair craved.

Penetrating oils can repair dryness and damage caused by heat, chemicals and colouring. After wash day, my hair would always feel softer, smoother, detangled and more manageable when pre-pooing was part of my routine.

Prepoo Oils ↓ (Click Below) :

Coconut Oil

Olive Oil

Avocado Oil

BONUS: Leave your hair alone. As hard as it may be, this is vital. Keep styling to a minimum to avoid unnecessary breakage. The less you do, the better!

Understand that it will take time for your hair to be repaired to its healthiest state. By the 3rd month, you'll begin to notice more volume and fullness in your hair. However, it will take any where from 6 - 12 months to really get your hair back on track and in tip-top shape.

Give yourself space and grace to grow and understand your hair and its needs. Patience and consistency will definitely be a prerequisite on the journey to rebuilding your hair.

Keep at it - you got this!!

Xo
Hairlicious Inc.http://www.blogger.com/profile/12963151018326098709noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1092996284303546686.post-17798695596522371492022-09-18T14:48:00.005-04:002022-09-27T13:37:23.215-04:00This 14” Bob😍!! Hey girl!
Today, I'm trying out the 14”inch V-part Bob Wig from UNice Hair. I’d say it's more like a lob (long bob) since it’s 14” inches in length, but that’s the shortest I could go since my hair is pretty long. It’s extremely realistic and natural. Quickest install ever.

But, let's go deeper.

So, what is a HABIT?

A habit is a routine of behaviour that is repeated <strike>sometimes</strike> REGULARLY and tends to occur subconsciously.

At this point in my hair care journey, my healthy hair habits have become a lifestyle. I pretty much operate on autopilot when it comes to the maintenance and care for my hair. And that's the goal. But it wasn't always like this.

In the beginning of my hair journey, I had to be intentional, consistent and make a conscious effort to implement these healthy hair habits. Keep in mind, these habits don't necessarily exempt you from experiencing setbacks (because they do happen), but it will allow you to bounce back faster as your routine will offset the severity of the setback - you get me?!

So what healthy hair habits should be a part of your hair routine?

Basically, methods and techniques that promote healthier hair resulting in you attaining your hair goals. Repeating these healthy hair care habits will build the foundation to help formulate a solid and successful regimen.

10 Healthy Hair Habits You Should Be Doing In Your Hair Regimen:

1) Wear Your Satin Scarf/Bonnet To Bed Nightly - Cotton sheets and pillow cases dry out your hair! Protect your hair and ends with a satin scarf and/or bonnet (or pillowcase) nightly to retain adequate moisture levels in your hair preventing dryness.

2) Moisturize and Seal Daily (or every other day) - Dry hair breaks! Maintaining healthy hydration levels in your hair is important in promoting healthier longer hair. Your ends are the oldest part of your hair and require moisture, frequently. More moisture results in less breakage which equals length retention. P.S. - The frequency of when you moisturize and seal will depend on your hair type and density - so pay attention.

3) Prepoo Weekly - Making a habit of applying a pre-shampoo treatment, using either an oil or conditioner (or both), before you shampoo can promote healthier hair strands. Shampooing is a very rigorous process on the hair and scalp. Prepoo's not only prevent the natural hair oils from being stripped from the hair but it also prevents hygral fatigue (the swelling and contracting of the hair cuticle during the uptake and loss of water) which can cause cuticle damage overtime. My advice would be to use a penetrating oil of your choice for this step. It will nourish the hair and prevent the hair shaft from swelling reducing the cortex from being exposed.

4) Shampoo Weekly - Happy scalp, happy hair! A healthy scalp is the foundation for healthy hair growth. Using a sulfate-free shampoo weekly helps to remove dirt, oil and build up off of the scalp which can inhibit hair growth. A clean healthy scalp is vital for optimal hair growth.

5) Deep Condition Weekly (with heat) - This is HUGE. Deep conditioning does wonders for your hair and ends. This process nourishes, restores, hydrates, strengthens and conditions the hair prepping it for manipulation, daily wear and tear while helping to prevent breakage and shedding. Making an effort to deep condition weekly, is an essential habit to include in your hair routine. This will determine the success of your hair journey and health of your hair.

6) Minimize Direct Heat - Let me say this first, heat is not the enemy! But, improper use of heat can be counterproductive to your healthy hair care goals. Frequent use of heat can cause heat damage, dry the hair out, increase breakage and eventually increase thinning. Laying off direct heat i.e. flat irons, blow dryer, curling iron and only reserving it for relaxer day or special occasions is a good rule of thumb. Direct heat can be a lot of manipulation on the hair and we all know that too much manipulation can cause unnecessary breakage. Use heat wisely.

7) Use a Widetooth Comb - In my mind, it's almost a crime to comb my hair with a fine tooth comb! lol. It's not happening unless my hair is flat ironed - if that! I make it a habit to finger detangle (as much as possible) and then use my wide tooth comb during the week and on wash days. Widetooth combs are much more gentle and "forgiving" on your strands causing less strain while preventing unnecessary breakage.

8) Minimize Manipulation - This will take some time to adjust to but less hands in your hair - the better! Constantly touching, combing, detangling, lifting, moving, styling your hair is a recipe for unnecessary strain, breakage and thinning. Keep your styles simple, finger detangle as much as possible and your hair will thank you for it!

9) Care for Your Ends - Your ends are the oldest part of your hair! It's fragile and experiences more wear and tear requiring more care, patience & attention than the roots of your hair. Regular protection and maintenance of your ends plays a huge role in the overall health and length of your hair. Make a habit of choosing styles that will not add stress and/or strain to the hair or just leave your hair alone as much as possible! Caring for your ends also includes trimming on a regular basis to prevent splits and thinning. Thin ends is not the look, sis! I make an effort to trim with every relaxer and that habit works well for me.

10) Don't Relax Sooner than 10 Weeks Post Relaxer - I swear by this time frame! It's not too soon or too far out. Having enough new growth, prior to your relaxer touch-up, and being consistent with a specific timeframe (that works for your hair) will produce consistent relaxer results. Consistent relaxer results is what you need. Making a habit of spacing out your relaxers, while protecting your previously relaxed ends, is the recipe for fuller, stronger, healthier hair.

BONUS) Pay Attention to Your Hair - Your hair will speak to you. Listen to your hair and pay attention to the way it behaves. This is a habit you will need to routinely implement into your hair routine for a successful hair journey. Feel it, look at it. Does it look dry? brittle? does it feel rough? Your hair speaks and if you listen, it will put you at an advantage to attain your hair goals. In the end, you will know the unique do's and dont's according to your hair. This is essential!

Again, daily/weekly hair habits repeated overtime...compound!

Though you may not see a difference immediately, it will add up and the results will show.

Continue to be intentional. Be consistent. Stay committed.

Xo.

Hairlicious Inc.http://www.blogger.com/profile/12963151018326098709noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1092996284303546686.post-3668530397961855272022-07-24T18:59:00.002-04:002022-08-08T19:45:08.546-04:007 Tips to Prevent and Correct Under-Processed Relaxed Hair - Thank Me Later!!

Happy Sunday!

In today’s video, I’m sharing 7+ tips on how you can prevent under-processed hair for your next relaxer session. This seems to be an issue MANY of us have gone through or will go through at some point in our healthy hair journey's. I’ve gone through it (and it’s not fun) but all of the tips I’m sharing - I swear by it.

These tips have helped me in preventing under-processed hair moving forward. Also, I share signs on how to know if you are in fact under-processed and step-by-step instructions on how to do a corrective relaxer to fix the under-processed areas. The consistency is thick and a little bit goes a long way. Not to mention, it gives the perfect amount of slip and detangles my knots and tangles easily. It's lightly scented so that's a plus. After shampooing, my hair feels smooth, softtt, and detangled!! The pump feature is the cherry on top making it super easy to get the product out and apply to the scalp. I lather twice with each use and my scalp feels clean but not stripped. I would say that the shampoo is a bit on the pricey side but a small amount stretches pretty far, so I think it will last for a while. Highly recommend this shampoo if you are in the market for a sulfate free hydrating and detangling shampoo for your Natural or Relaxed Hair.

Hair Mask: I've been on the hunt for more protein-free deep conditioners to add to the arsenal and to recommend to my hair sisters (like you! xo) and this right hereee...definitely made the cut! The consistency and thickness is the EXACT same as the Honey Miracle Hair Mask - another fave. Because it's so thick, it's best to apply this mask to damp hair for easier spread and distribution on the hair strands.

I like to use the shampoo from this line along with the hair mask for optimal results. Love them together! This hair mask smooths my cuticles so well. I couldn't stop touching my hair all week. So smooth. It works well in penetrating my strands, melting away tangles and closing my cuticles for a smooth sleek finish. I'm assuming it's the Rose Water that decreases frizz + tangles.

I find that the hair mask works very well with or without the use of indirect heat i.e. heat cap, steamer, hooded dryer. However, I did notice that my results were slightly better when using my hooded dryer for 25-30 mins and rinsing with lukewarm water - oh sooo so good! Also, it claims to have vitamins A, B, C, D E and B3 in the ingredients plus Omega 3, 6, and 9 to help support the health of the hair shaft - I'm here for it!

It has great penetrating oils as well but offers a lightweight hydration which is perfect for Spring and Summer months. The only thing I don't like is the fact that it's a little expensive for the amount you're getting. I probably got 3/4 uses out of the jar. It's $24.99, without a sale. Moving forward, I think I'll continue to grab this only when it's on sale.

Price: $19.99 (shampoo) & $24.99 (hair mask)

Hairlicious Rating: <span style="font-family: "georgia" , serif; font-size: 16.3636px;"> <span style="font-family: "georgia" , serif; font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , serif; font-size: 16.3636px;"> (4/5) Very Good

Hairlicious Inc.http://www.blogger.com/profile/12963151018326098709noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1092996284303546686.post-26384517246821391102022-06-23T10:20:00.004-04:002022-08-08T19:44:17.794-04:00RELAXER UPDATE: Under-Processed Hair, Switching to Affirm Relaxer, C0vid + Shedding! | Relaxed Hair

Hey Girl! I received this question from one of my Instagram followers this week and it's a great one to share here on my blog as I know many are probably wondering the same thing.

Finding your holy grail products can be an exhausting task! But only through the process of trial and error are we able to find our 'tried and true' products.

Now the question is, "how will you know when your hair likes a product?"

As simple as this question is, the answer is a little complex.

Sometimes, when we try new products for a few days, it can be hard to 'hear' what our hair is saying to us. But if you pay close attention to the appearance and feel of your hair, you will begin to 'listen' and act accordingly.

It really boils down to results! The results you receive when you try a particular hair product.

For instance, if you try a moisture based product that claims to 'hydrate, smooth and moisturize damaged strands' yet every time you use it your hair appears dull, dry, rough, and you notice breakage! Chances are your hair does NOT like that particular product. No need to repeat the process, sis.

Always keep this in mind when trying hair care products:

Is this product doing what it's intended to do? How does my hair look after using this product? How does it feel? How does my scalp feel? Is it clean? Is there any product build up on my strands or scalp? Has my breakage decreased? Has my shedding decreased?

Mini hair assessments, pre and post product usage, will allow you to understand your hair better and what it likes! Below are the 5 signs to look out for when trying to figure out if your hair likes a product.

5 Signs Indicating Your Hair Likes A Product:

1. Increase In Moisture Levels - Soft moisturized hair is a big indicator that your hair has responded well to a product. An easy yet effective way to tell if your hair is 'moisturized' is by touching it. Your hair will feel much more manageable, soft and slightly cool-to-the-touch indicating that moisture has been locked in to the strands. Nothing like a product that effectively hydrates the hair!

2. Less Breakage - It's important to know that breakage is inevitable, it will happen. However, the focus needs to shift to ensuring it doesn't go out of control or happen often - minimizing breakage is key! Wait a few days after using a product to see if you notice a change in the amount of breakage you receive. If you notice far less breakage, then you normally would experience, then you know that the product is working to restore balance in your strands. Less breakage equates to length retention over time!

3. Less Tangles - If you notice less tangles, knots and matting - after using a haircare product - there's a 99% chance that your hair is responding positively and it's a keeper! Less tangles means less friction between your strands. The cuticles are laying flat as they should! Less friction leads to less breakage.

4. Increase in Shine - Shine in the hair is a result of closed cuticles, which means your strands are sitting at the right pH level to effectively lock in moisture. Closed cuticles reflect light; therefore, your hair will give off a sheen/shine after using products that your hair loves. If you notice a subtle shine/sheen to your hair after using a certain product, it's a good thing!

5. Calm Scalp - Scalp irritation and sensitivity is no fun. Using a product that causes itchiness, dryness, flakes, soreness or even shedding is a big indicator that it's not for you. Your scalp is the foundation of your hair, so keeping it in tip-top shape is crucial for healthy hair growth. An easy way to assess if a product is working for you (and agrees with your scalp), is if your scalp is displaying the opposite of everything I mentioned above. No, honestly! If a product is in fact working, your scalp will be calm, hydrated, clear of any flakes, no excessive itching, and free of build up etc.

Again, pay close attention to how your hair is looking and feeling after using new products. Don't ignore the signs and cues your hair gives you. Always listen to your hair!

Below are some tips to help document and troubleshoot the effectiveness of hair care products in your routine.

Tip# 1: When trying new products, try documenting the results in the Notes App on your phone or on a physical notebook/pad. Keeping track of how your hair behaves, after introducing new products into your regimen, will give you a better understanding of what is working and what isn't.

Tip# 2: If you are still unsure of the results you're getting or nothing seems to be working, try using a Clarifying shampoo to rid your hair of any build up. Product build up can inhibit new products from penetrating your strands (basically making you feel as though nothing is working). Giving your hair a clean slate will allow the new product to absorb into your strands possibly giving you better results.

Evaluate your hair and scalp often, make adjustments as you see fit!

Xoxo

Hairlicious Inc.http://www.blogger.com/profile/12963151018326098709noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1092996284303546686.post-14139812536962139732022-03-14T14:05:00.000-04:002022-03-14T14:05:17.133-04:00No Glue No Spray - Skin Melt, Clean Hairline and Clear Lace Wig FT.
