Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Monday, August 08, 2011

Have you tried EVOO (Extra virgin olive oil) in your hair regimen? If not, wait no further! When used on the hair, extra virgin olive oil can nourish, condition and improve the strength and elasticity. Due to it's ability to penetrate the hair shaft, this rich moisturizing oil can reach the cortex of the hair, allowing the hair to feel conditioned, nourished, and healthy with each use. Extra virgin olive oil contains antioxidant vitamin E, vitamin A and helps heal dry flaky scalp, also known as dandruff. Ways to add this oil into your hair regimen for maximum benefits:
  1. Preshampoo treatment - Add 2-4 tbsps of EVOO to your dry unwashed hair. Apply to the ends first. Use the rest in your scalp. Cover your hair with a plastic cap for 15-20mins (with or without heat). Wash and condition as usual.
  2. Scalp oil - Add 2 tbsps of EVOO to a applicator bottle. Place bottle in warm water to heat up. Test on wrist until desired temp is reached. Apply to the scalp and massage for 10-15 mins. The oil will help dandruff and dryness and the massage will promote growth.
  3. Leave-in - You can use a dab of EVOO over your leave-in conditioner to lock in moisture thus helping to retain a proper moisture balance.
  4. Mixed into your deep conditioner - Add 1-2 tbsps of EVOO to your desired deep conditioner for soft, conditioned, smooth hair. This is my favourite method!!

Before your website i genuinely thought that black hair didn't grow and that it was the reason why my hair was always the same length :s I know kind absurd when I think about it today... Today was my relaxer day and couldn't beleive how much my hair had grown or grew... sorry for my english... Im from france... Anyways... My hair was way LONGER + HEALTHIER + THICKER :) On your t-shirt measurement i used to be 1.... I'm now a 3!!!! Going from 1 to 3 shows a lot specially on the front :) Your blog had such an incredible impact on my hair life that I wanted to share it with you :) Please keep on helping us in our hair journey, I'm sure that there is A LOT of black girls all around the world who could beneficate from your AMAZING advice. All of my friends are now following you :) I just have one question: what treatment do you suggest after a relaxer?

  6. Hey Ladies. I'm happy to hear that you are using Olive Oil in your hair regimens. It's a great oil and very affordable.

@Anonymous - Thank you so much for the love and support. I'm excited that your making such awesome progress. Keep it up! Thank you so much for reading my blog. I'm happy to hear that my tips have helped you.

What treatment do you suggest after a relaxer? After a relaxer I suggest using a reconstructor. This will help fortify the hair, re-align the hair cuticles and replenish lost protein from the hair. Examples, ION reconstructor, Aphogee 2 min reconstructor, or affirm 5 in 1 reconstructor. Remember to follow up with a moisture DC.

  7. I first learned about this tip from my sister. She used to have dry hair, but that changed after she started using olive oil. Tried it two months ago and I definitely recommend it.

  8. I often use olive oil to moisture my hair, but one thing I'm yet to manage is the amount. I'm sometimes too greedy and apply way too much oil to my scalp. Problems arise later on...

  10. I have chronic itchy scalp and dandruff, and I've been looking for a natural method for helping with it. Rx stuff doesn't work it just burns my skin. Thanks for the info. Its cheap and easy to get ahold of. Thank goodness someone who can actually attest to its benefits. I can't wait to start using it! :)
