My Castor Oil Challenge Pt. 8 Update
Sunday, October 27, 2013
As you guys know, I'm in the Castor Oil Challenge Pt. 8. I've entered the challenge at the Ultimate Level. I've very proud at how consistent I've been with this Challenge considering how rigorous the Ultimate level has been. It's no joke!! You have to be very serious and committed when doing this level. This is just a quick check-in to log how my hair has been feeling and the routine I've been doing.
Level I joined in at: Ultimate Level (applying Castor oil every other day, seal in moisturizer with Castor oil or mixed with another oil, apply 1 tsp of Castor oil in deep conditioner)
Routine: Still doing my usual regimen. I apply Jamaican Black Castor Oil every other day to my scalp in sections after I moisturize and seal. I seal in my moisturizer (Old version of Scurl No Drip Activator) with Tropic Isle Jamaican Black Castor Oil Argan Oil Serum nightly. At night, after I apply the JBCO to my scalp, moisturize and seal, I'll baggy my entire head so that everything penetrates thoroughly. I apply 1 TSP of JBCO to my deep conditioners twice weekly. I use heat when I deep condition for 25-30mins.
How my hair feels: My hair is incredibly soft and my new growth is extremely manageable. I've noticed that my ends remain moist for a longer period of time when I seal with the Tropic Isle Jamaican Black Castor Oil Argan Oil Serum. I know the JBCO in the oil blend is a contributing factor. My hair remains smooth to the touch and moist!!! I just love it. As part of my routine, I like to baggy my entire head after I've applied the JBCO to my scalp and moisturized & sealed. I find that this helps the products to deeply absorb and penetrate into my hair and scalp. I'll baggy for approximately 15-20 mins, every other night. This has really contributed to my hair feeling like butter!! It's a technique I strongly encourage if your are participating in the Castor Oil Challenge. Unfortunately, I have noticed that I've been shedding more than normal. I'm not alarmed because Castor oil is known to stimulate growth and by that, hair that is in the "resting phase" will shed (more quickly) so that new hairs can grow in it's place. Whether now or later, those hairs will shed, it's just sped up by the oil. Overall, my hair is very soft and moist, my new growth is thicker, it's growing in nicely and it's soft!

DeleteThank you! I do have a question......i have terrible scalp issue, so i mix tea tree oil & Jojoba oil and apply to my scalp. It seem to be helping. I wonder though if tea tree oil will cause any damage to my hair?
ReplyDeleteNo, tea tree oil will not do any damage to your hair. It's actually a great essential oil to add into your regimen especially if you have scalp irritations. If it helps soothe your scalp, by all means, continue to use it (in small amounts).
DeleteSunshine thanks for the great tips I have a question tho, whenever I apply castor oil to my scalp I use the regular castor oil not the jbco, my head itches like crazy! I really want the benefits of castor oil but I'm wondering if I could be allergic to it. Amy thoughts on how I can possibly still use it in my regimen?
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear that. The itchiness is a common side effect as the castor oil is detoxing your scalp from toxins. The itchiness usually fades with time, however there are a few things you can do to ease the discomfort i.e. spray aloe vera in the scalp mixed with water, mixed the castor oil with another carrier oil i.e. olive oil, jojoba oil, coconut oil, use it less frequently (2-3x/wk), add a few drops of tea tree oil to the Castor oil to soothe the scalp.
DeleteI have done much reading on peppermint oil. Has anyone used it and got results?
