Jason Extra Rich Natural Sea Kelp Shampoo

I'm not sure if you guys remember, but I was on a hunt for some new shampoo's after I ditched the Elasta QP Creme Conditioning & Creme of Nature Ultra Moisturizing Shampoo (Regimen Changes Post). Since then I've been trying new things and I've found a couple of shampoos that really agree with my hair. Here is a review on the first one!

Product Claims: Moisturizes with Extra Rich Vitamins, Minerals, Proteins & Amino Acids. Adds Body & Shine with Tropical Botanicals and UV Sun Protection.

Directions: Thoroughly wet hair. Always do a quick light-lathering shampoo first. Rinse and follow with a second super-lathering to thoroughly remove stubborn oils and excess daily dirt and debris.

Ingredients: Sea Kelp/Algae Extract, Purified Soft Water, Awapuhi Extract, PEG-80 Sorbitan Laurate, Decyl Polyglucose, Aloe Vera Gel, Cocomidopropyl Betaine, Cocobetaine, Marigold Extract, Glycerin (Vege), Chamomile Extract, Soyamide DEA, 22 Keratin Amino Acids, Avocadamide DEA, Polysorbate 20, Babassuamidopropyl Betaine, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vit.E), Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Allantoin, PEG-150 Distearate, Ascorbic Acid (Vit.C), Methylparaben, Retinyl Palmitate (Vit.A), Propylparaben, Oxybenzone, Kukui Nut, Plumeria Flower Extract, Fragrance, Orchid Flower Extract, Citric Acid.

The Truth: What's funny about this shampoo is that I've tried it when I was about 10 weeks+ post relaxer and I hated it. It made my hair really tangle-y and my hair felt kinda stripped. I didn't notice much benefit to my hair after using it. My mind was made up at that point!

I didn't want to give up on the shampoo just yet so, I kept the bottle and I've been using it on & off since my last relaxer (August 12th '08). Surprisingly, it's been great on my hair so far! I now know to massage and smooth it through the roots gentley. The consistancy of the shampoo is not slippery to the touch. That is why it's so easy to get tangles if you're not careful. I only lather with it 1x. After using it, the "right way", my hair doesn't have the tangles it used to and my hair has a nice shine afterwards. What I like most about this shampoo is that it's pH balanced (pH 5.5) and there's no Sulfates. Overall, it's a pretty decent shampoo. I'll do an update when I'm more weeks post.'

Price: $7-8 CAD

  1. I use this shampoo and it is farely good. I like that it is sulfate free and it has great ingredients in it that also help stimulate hair growth. I only lather once with it as well. When I used to try to do 2, it was a mess! LOL.

  2. You are so right! You gotta be very careful with this shampoo, but it makes your hair feel really nice & smooth after.

  3. I see it contains protein. Do you think that may have been why only one lather was good enough? I've noticed when I use shampoo with any form of protein in it, my hair will feel stiffer in it as well, so I just use my protein in conditioners.

  4. It contains hydrolyzed wheat protein which is a unique hydrating complex offering a combination of moisture-balancing and film-forming properties that work synergistically to give hair better body control, and a smoother softer feel. I love this ingredient. Overall, Organic shampoo's on a whole don't feel as good on my hair like the other shampoo's.
