Thank you so much for the compliment. I'm so humbled to be considered an inspiration :) As for how I got my hair thicker, it wasn't just one thing in particular that contributed to the thickness of my hair, it was a combination of a few key factors.

Check them out below:

1. Stretching My Relaxers - I like to space out my relaxers as far as possible. I usually relax my hair every 10-12 weeks. By stretching out my relaxers I'm giving my hair a break and allowing my new growth to grow in fully before putting the relaxer on it. When your new growth is not visible, it's much easier to overlapp the relaxer on the previously relaxed hair. This can cause thinness, breakage and overall damage. Stretching your relaxers makes your hair stronger and thicker over time.

2. Using Normal Strength Relaxer vs. Extra Strength - Normal strength relaxers tend to process the hair at a much slower rate than extra strength relaxers. The slower process along with my quick relaxer speed (20-25 mins; fast relaxer speed = less processing = less texture removed from the hair = thicker hair) my hair is not relaxed completely bone straight. There is still some texture left over in my strands. More texture = thicker/dense strands. Also, I ONLY apply the relaxer to my new growth. Nowhere else. Previously relaxed hair does not need to be relaxed again (this is called over-processing which can lead to thinness). I like to use ORS Lye Normal Strength.

3. Protecting My Previously Relaxed Hair While Relaxing - I swear by this. I never relax my hair without my ends being protected from the relaxer. Relaxing previously relaxed hair can cause the hair to be over-processed which eventually leads to thinness and breakage. Protecting the length of the hair to the ends, creates a barrier between your hair and the run-off of the relaxer. While rinsing out the relaxer, the length of your hair can be processed, if not protected properly.  Coat your strands with Vaseline (nothing is penetrating through that), Castor Oil, or Porosity Control Conditioner for maximum protection.

4. Pre-poo with Coconut Oil - I like to pre-poo my hair with a mixture of conditioner and coconut oil before I shampoo. Coconut oil is known to protect the hair from protein loss when used as a pre-shampoo treatment. In other words, it helps prevent damage to the cuticle/hair as it penetrates deeply into the cortex of the hair, therefore, less protein is lost. Less damage = stronger fuller cuticle = thicker hair.

5. Weekly Light Protein Treatments - I changed my regimen around in order to incorporate weekly protein treatments. Protein causes the hair to swell in diameter thus increasing the thickness of the strands. Protein treatments strengthen and fortify the hair preventing breakage. I like to use Aphogee 2 Minute Reconstructor once a week.

Summer has come and gone! Now it's time to replenish, restore and rebuild your hair from roots to ends. Below are a few tips as to how to moisturize, protect and get your hair healthy & strong for the Fall and Winter months.

1. Scalp Massages With Oil. Massaging your scalp is an excellent way to stimulate the blood to increase circulation and promote more hair growth. It also helps to detox the scalp of any impurities that may inhibit growth. Use an oil of your choice and massage your scalp with it 2-3 times per week. For extra benefits, warm the oil and bring the oils from the scalp through the length of the hair for a hot oil treatment. Leave in the hair for 15-20 mins (you can use heat for better absorption).

2. Deep Condition Weekly. Cold dry air sucks moisture right out of our hair. The best way to replenish lost moisture is to deep condition weekly with heat (25-30mins). Depending on your hair, you may want to use a rich moisturizing conditioner or a combination of both protein/moisture. Keeping up with your deep conditions will in turn improve the overall health of your hair. Over time, your hair will thrive and withstand the harsh weather.

3. Baby Your Hair. Protect your hair/ends from harsh Fall/Winter fabrics by putting it up off of your shoulders. The constant contact with these fabrics can cause unnecessary dryness and breakage. Opt to wear your hair up off of your shoulders in protective styles. Protective styles prevent the hair from drying out and being exposed to cold temperatures. Protective styling will also aid in length retention.

4. Keep Your Ends Moist. When our hair is exposed to harsh weather, our ends tend to suffer the most since it's the oldest part of our hair. Moisturize your ends first and then work your hair up the hair shaft. Use a water based moisturizer daily or every other day to combat dryness in order to prevent breakage.

5.  Take Your Vitamins. Nourish your hair from the inside out. Remember to take a multi-vitamin daily for optimal health and eat a well balanced diet for proper nourishment. Make sure your vitamins have a healthy dose of B-Complex, Iron, Calcium, Vitamin D and Omega 3's.

Truth: A couple months ago, I did a Sally Beauty Supply Store Haul, with one of the items being the Silk Elements Megasilk Olive Moisturizing Treatment. This product lives up to most of it's promises. First of all, let me start out by saying that this conditioner has a great fresh/clean fragrance that lingers in the hair for more than 24 hrs. It's a light scent that is perfect if you are wearing your hair down. As for the conditioner's promises, I can say that it does strengthen and soften the hair. I've used this conditioner with and without heat and it works MUCH better with heat for 30 mins. I used it under a hooded dryer for 30 mins and my hair was like silk! It was extremely smooth to the touch, full of volume, fluffy and soft. Although this conditioner is thick and has Olive Oil in it, my hair didn't feel weighed down.  In fact, it had a nice swing to it every time I turned my head. That's a plus! My hair was more manageable than usual, especially my roots. This treatment contains Hydrolyzed Silk which is a protein, however, I wouldn't call it a "protein treatment" per se. Hydrolyzed Silk is known for it's moisture binding properties and repair to the hair. It softens the hair while strengthening it. It helps to add shine, body, and manageability to hair. It's a happy medium and perfect for those with fine to medium coarse hair to use weekly.
