February 2010 Hair Update + New Goals

Tuesday, February 16, 2010

Below are some recent hair photos. I stretched my relaxer out to 13 weeks - it was quite hard at times I must admit. The most my hair (especially since it's so coarse and highly textured) can tolerate is 10-11 weeks post. The longer I stretch, the more hair I lose Smiley. I learned my lesson! LOL

Moving on...I lightly trimmed my hair twice since I last relaxed in November 2009. I did this because I noticed some split ends and they had to go because I'm in the Healthy Ends Challenge on Hairlista Inc.

I feel like I haven't gained much length this time around (plus I gave my scalp a break from JBCO for a while..don't worry I will continue using it again starting tonight..I slacked off big time. No more excuses). Overall, I'm pretty happy with the health - which is most important.

FYI, I'm still on my quest to MBL...it's taking some time...but I'm loving the journey nonetheless Smiley.

Goals I Met from June 2009 Personal MBL Check Up:

  • CONSISTENTLY Apply Jamaican Black Castor oil (not a fan of the regular Castor oil - sorry) to scalp 3x/week part of the Castor Oil Challenge Pt.2
  • Increase/maintain thickness (hair & ends)
  • Keep up with light protein weekly
  • Incorporate more oils into regimen
  • Co-wash 1x/week part of the Summer 2009 Co-wash Challenge
  • Take Multi-Vitamins Daily & Fish Oils

New Goals:

  • Apply JBCO to scalp 3 times a week after wash day
  • Take Multi-Vitamin and Omega 3-6-9 capsules daily
  • Drink 8 glasses of water daily
  • Exercise 3 times a week (I got a new membership..YAY Me!)
  • Increase shine and soften texture (hard goal but I'm willing to take on the challenge)
  • Buy a new steamer (my Hair Therapy Wrap broke..will explain later)
  • Simplify regimen and products even more!

Check'em out:

  5. Thanks goodness you're here! I'm getting discourage with my hair but I'm encouraged by your updates!

My hair is thinning, they're uneven, I still can't air dry properly...my hair always end up poofy, frizzie and dry and I'm afraid it's causing breakage :(. I think I'll start over from the top and re-read your regimen to mimic it more. Hopefully that will helps. I would love to get my hair think and healthy too.

Anyway, I needed to vent a bit. Thanks for all your hard work on this blog. I really really appreciate it!

  8. I love your hair. I'm trying to grow my hair back down my back as well. From my experience and knowledge, stretching your relaxers will cause breakage.I know a lot of people do that because it's a chemical but when you do that the new growth which is thicker and dryer than the relaxed ends of your hair will cause the ends to break for that reason. It really all depends on the elasticity and porosity of the hair, and of course the texture. I've known a lot of people who stretch their relaxers and in the end their hair never grows or is even in length due to breakage. I love the post! ♥ Miss Nic ♥ http://missnicselegantedge.blogspot.com/

  14. Stretching ur relaxer is an excellent way to maintain healthy hair and grow it long... as long as you take care of your hair during this time. Not everyone can stretch the same length but do try to stretch to your hairs ability because Overlapping during your relaxers is one of the major reasons for hair thinning, breaking, split ends, uneven, etc. Why should 6-8 wks be the Norm...Who's to say everyones hair grow at the same speed and have at least 1/2 inch new growth (to prevent overlapping. Most people just need a protein and deep conditioner at that time. Stretching is great!!! Use oils such as Glycerine, Olive, Avocado, and of course Castor oil to soften the new growth.

  15. I've been following your blog for a while, and I have to say your hair looks amazing! I'd like to say a lot of women dont make as good progress as you because they need to cut off most of their damaged hair. If you have more then 2inches of damaged hair, CUT IT. And you WILL see much more progress! Awaiting your next update! xoxo
