Hair Regimen Basics For Beginners | www.HairliciousInc.com

"How do I start my hair regimen?"

This is by far one of the MOST commonly asked questions I receive.

When starting your hair journey, establishing a regimen can seem overwhelming! There's a plethora of  advise, products, tips, tricks, trends etc. and you get lost, confused and frustrated before you even start.

I get it!

Overwhelm is likely, but it doesn't have to be.

Here are a few tips that will help you get started and keep things simple:

1. Find The Right Products For You

There's a ton of products out there!

But try to have tunnel vision in this area, especially when you are navigating the initial stages of your journey and becoming more aware of your hairs behaviours.

It's important to identify the qualities and characteristics of your hair type to determine the products best suited for your hair. We are all unique - so is our hair. Remember, what works for someone, may not work for you.

For me, my hair is pretty dense and coarse. I prefer thick, rich conditioners and penetrating moisturizers for my strands.

What You Need - The Fundamentals:

Clarifying Shampoo (1)

Moisturizing Sulfate Free Shampoo (1)

Moisturizing Deep Conditioner (1 or 2)

Protein Conditioner/Treatment (1 or 2)

Leave-in Conditioner (1)

Moisturizer (1 or 2)

Natural Oils (2 - 3)

...that's it, sis!

2. Building Your Regimen

Be sure to establish when you will carry out specific steps in your regimen. For example, when will you moisturize? cleanse and condition? strengthen? etc.

You can adapt a simple plan of moisturizing daily, cleansing and conditioning weekly and strengthening monthly. Watch and see how your hair reacts.

It took me a while to actually find a regimen that worked for me and my hair. Give yourself grace!

As you continue building your hair schedule, it will eventually become a regimen, and your journey will be well on it's way!

3. Repeat What Works

Be intentional.

Set aside time during the week to actually perform each step in your regimen (cleansing, conditioning, moisturizing). For me, I wash twice a week, so Sunday's and Thursday's. This is my "me" time.

Also, stick to the same products, methods and techniques that work for you. Of course, be consistent to see results!
