Olaplex No. 3 Hair Perfector - Relaxed Hair - My First Impression!
My Products Friday, November 23, 2018
Ola Ola Olaplex!
You guys! I can FINALLY say that I got my hands on this popular bond rebuilder (I know I'm late) and I've been testing it out for the past couple weeks on my relaxed hair! So, a couple weeks back, I mentioned on my Instagram Stories that I would share my first impression based on my first encounter with the product and how it made my hair feel. So lets get started....
If you aren't familiar with Olaplex No. 3, let me tell you that this product is NOT a conditioner or protein treatment. It's a bond rebuilder. It possesses a patented active ingredient that works on a molecular level to seek out broken bonds in the hair that are caused by chemical (relaxer, colour etc.), thermal (blow drying, flat ironing etc.), and mechanical damage (severe manipulation i.e. weaves, braids, excessive brushing etc.). Olaplex No. 3 works to restore compromised hair promising the ultimate breakage insurance.

Now you're probably wondering, how does this work for Relaxed Hair? Well, we all know that relaxers breakdown and manipulate the internal protein bonds in the hair by chemically altering the curl pattern and texture to become straight. Due to the disulfide bonds being broken in the hair through relaxer services, Olaplex No. 3 was created as a take home treatment to rebuild those broken bonds, build the integrity of the hair while improving strength and softness. Now on to my experience & thoughts...
Olaplex Directions:
- Apply a generous amount from roots to ends on unwashed towel-dried hair. Comb through once. Leave on for a minimum of 10 minutes or more. For damaged hair, repeat without rising.
- Rinse from hair, shampoo, and condition.
How I applied Olaplex No. 3 to my Relaxed Hair:
The first time I tried Olaplex, I did as the directions asked which indicated that I must apply the product to "towel dried" hair BUT unwashed! I was a little confused by that. So, I decided to rinse my hair with water under the shower, t-shirt dry for 10-15 mins and then apply Olaplex in 4 sections from root to tip. Basically using it as a pre-poo!
Once complete, I covered my hair with a plastic cap and left the product on my hair for 30 mins (no heat). I then rinsed, shampooed with a sulfate-free shampoo and deep conditioned with a moisture deep conditioner for 30 mins with heat.

My Experience:
1st application:
After having Olaplex No. 3 on my hair for 30 mins, I removed the plastic cap and my hair felt very saturated as though the product really penetrated my strands . When I rinsed out the product, prior to shampooing, my hair felt noticeably smoother and softer to the touch. I shampooed twice and as I was rinsing, my hair still felt pretty good. Fast forward to deep conditioning, navigating through my hair and new growth to apply my deep conditioner was easier than normal. My hair felt more manageable and slippy. Rinsing out my deep conditioner was my favourite part!! Oh my goodness, you guys I literally said "WOW" aloud in the shower as I was running my fingers through my hair under running water. I wasn't expecting that to happen! My hair felt ridiculously soft and smoother than normal - my cuticles were sooo flat. The silkiness and softness was something I haven't experienced in a longggg time. While I was air drying (without my leave-in conditioner - yes, my hair felt that good!), I noticed that my hair remained very smooth yet stronger and reinforced!! I was pretty impressed.
2nd application (1 week later):
This time around I didn't go in the shower first, I just spritzed my hair with water from my spray bottle to the point where it "felt" damp/towel dried. I followed the EXACT SAME steps as above, however, my results were pretty mediocre in comparison to my first experience. Don't get me wrong, my hair felt fortified and smoother than usual but the softness wasn't really there. Looking back, I honestly feel as though not wetting my hair enough, i.e. in the shower, was the cause for my results to be a bit average.
Overall:
With just two (2) applications, I'm half way done the bottle. I'm still in the "testing phase" so I'll finish the entire bottle before I write my full review (so approximately 2 more applications). So far, the results have been better than I anticipated and my hair feels great during and after each use. Full review coming soon - stay tuned!

Have you tried Olaplex No. 3? Are you natural or relaxed? What was your experience?

If you know me, then it's probably no secret that I'm a HUGE fan of Keracare Humecto Creme Conditioner for my relaxed hair!
This stuff is truly amazing that I can’t picture my hair journey/regimen without it. Seriously. Don't get me wrong, I try different products from time-to-time but it's always nice to return back to your "tried and true" products!
Too, I get a ton of questions, from my fellow Hairlistas who are so curious, about this conditioner and it's benefits (I don't blame them, the curiosity got me too and now this conditioner is in my life for good! LOL). Truth be told, its been a staple in my hair regimen for several years now and there are 5 Keys Reasons Why I Love Keracare Humecto, check them out:
1. "Protein Free" Moisturizing Conditioner - I love this conditioner for the simple fact that it's protein free! There are so many conditioners on the market right now that claim to be "moisturizing" yet when you check out the ingredients, it contains proteins that make you second guess even purchasing the item or better yet why they even call it 'moisturizing'! Keracare Humecto has zero protein with ingredients that help to replenish moisture, give slip, detangle and soften my hair perfectly. It makes my hair buttery soft with each use!
2. It's Huge in Size - Packaging is everything to me! Though this line offers various sizes i.e. 8oz, 16oz etc. I'm happy that there's a 5lb tub option for people like me. Not only is the tub huge and lasts me all year, but "they say" the tub has a thicker/creamier consistency than the bottle! and I'm all for thick and creamy conditioners :) Also, having a tub of moisturizing conditioner is just so satisfying to me, especially when you have thick MBL hair. You need a generous amount of conditioner to coat your hair from root to tip. Tub size conditioner is truly a d r e a m for any girl who is on a hair journey.
3. Thick/Creamy Consistency - As mentioned before, the tub carries a rich creamy consistency. The thickness of the conditioner is perfect for my dry coarse 4b/c, especially when I’m stretching my relaxers, it melts away my new growth and tangles with ease. It's honestly been a life saver!
4. pH Balanced - Because I have high porosity hair, using a conditioner with a low pH of 4.5 is essential to get my cuticles (the outer layer of the hair shaft) to lay flat and smooth allowing moisture to remain in my hair. After each use, my hair feels smooth, flow-y and soft as it keeps my hair cuticles sealed and healthy. I couldn't ask for more!
5. Lots of Natural Extracts - This conditioner is packed with a chalk full of natural extracts i.e. Rosemary, Ivy, Garlic, Matricaria, etc. (just to name a few) which is perfect for rejuvenating and restoring nourishment back into the hair and scalp. Quality is key!!
... Humecto is bae and it's not going anywhere, anytime soon!
Why I'm Loving @TaliahWaajid Protective Mist Bodifier - Current Fav!
Moisturize and Seal Sunday, July 09, 2017
By now you probably know that I'm a die hard Scurl No Drip (Original) fan since...f o r e v e r! However, the original formula is getting harder and harder to find online and offline as it's been replaced by the new formula (which my hair doesn't really care for).
Over the past couple months, I revisited the Taliah Waajid Protective Mist Bodifier ("TWPMB") as a daily moisturizer for my ends, once again, I was surprisingly shocked at how my hair responded to it. My hair was extremely soft, moist, smooth, and not weighed down by product. This is h u g e because I rarely find a moisturizer that actually agrees with my 4b/c hair. When using TWPMB breakage minimized and my hair/new growth was manageable. My ends are extra happy when I use TWPMB and seal with Jojoba oil! Let's not forget the coconut scent that lingers in your hair after each use :)
TWPMB is a glycerin based moisturizer but it's silicone free and paraben free - which I know many will love! It also has wheat germ extract, which is a ceramide, to help protect the hair while providing strength.

Not only is this product a great substitute for Scurl No Drip Activator (original) but it works wonders on my relaxed hair though it seems targeted for naturals. The product is light (I use it on my freshly flat ironed hair too) and easily penetrates into the hair, without leaving a 'sticky feeling' on your strands. I love how the product comes in a 8 fl. oz. spray as well as a 23 fl. oz bottle (like the picture above). I'm all about packaging and the more product I can get, the better. What I love most is that I can easily purchase it from my local Beauty Supply store whenever I run out.
Long story short, TWPMB is my daily moisturizer of choice right now!

My Relaxer Day Essentials - Featuring ORS Olive Oil Relaxer and ORS Replenishing Conditioner
My Products Friday, March 24, 2017Nothing makes me happier than to relax my hair using the brand I trust most - ORS Olive Oil Professional Crème Relaxer and ORS Replenishing Conditioner!
I look forward to relaxer day not only because I get to see progress i.e. length, thickness etc., but my results are predictable and that's what I love most.
ORS Olive Oil Professional Relaxer has been a staple in my healthy hair regimen for years - I'm talking 2009/10!! It's Bae ❤ I use the Normal strength for my coarse 4b/c strands. Normal strength processes slower - which is a good thing for me. I find that this strength is mild for my hair as it preserves just the right amount of texture giving my hair body and fullness.
I apply my relaxer using my Sprush (in pic above) and the relaxer stays on my new growth for exactly 20 minutes (I use the timer on my phone to ensure I don't go over). I follow up with my neutralizing shampoo process, which is a total of approximately 20 minutes (I do this to ensure the relaxer is completely out of my hair) and then I deep condition.
ORS Replenishing Conditioner is my "go-to" treatment on relaxer day. Why? Because it has the best moisture/protein balance that my hair craves right after a relaxer. Remember, relaxers strip the protein out of your hair, so its best to replenish (no pun intended LOL) the protein back into the hair - sooner than later. Not to mention, the conditioner also helps to restore the moisture levels back into the hair. Don't get me started on the detangling abilities either - my goodness! It's a gem.
Mixing my ORS Replenishing Conditioner with a little Olive oil, Coconut Oil and Avocado Oil for extra penetration and nutrients is a ritual of mine. In fact, if I relax fairly late in the evening (I relax my hair at home), I will deep condition overnight and my hair is like warm butter when I rinse in the morning!! Fact!!
My relaxer day is nothing without these essential products. They are staples and my hair loves them!
My Relaxer Results: As you can see in the pictures below, my hair is relaxed yet has texture.

What is your favourite relaxer to use? What conditioner do you follow up with on relaxer day?
It's finally here!!!
Here is a video on all of my hair care products that I use on a daily, weekly, monthly basis. Majority of the products shown are my staples, some I'm still testing out and will do products reviews.
I posted a photo of my new Kallax shelving unit (Ikea) on Instagram (@hairlicious) a couple months back. The old plastic shelves from Walmart just wasn't working anymore - it had to go! Check out the 'before' and 'after'.

Some Hairlistas requested that I do a video on my products....so here it is!
Enjoy!!
It's that time of year where Spring Cleaning is a must! Why not start with hair care - right? So I have this "leaning tower" of hair products in my bathroom that simply get's on my nerves every wash day, no actually, every time I walk into the bathroom!! The drawers are so packed (notice my son's toys in there too), they cannot close - or open properly for that matter. Since my products cannot stand up right, they tend to leak out into the drawers causing a huge mess - thus wasting product :( The struggle is real!!!
So this past weekend, I made it my mission to grab some new shelving and put this struggle to rest! I took myself to Ikea and picked out the KALLAX Shelving Unit to fit all my products! I liked this unit because the shelves are deep - not shallow - allowing me to store more product per shelf. I'm so happy to see the new set-up. It was well overdue. I'm proud to say that my products have a new home!! Not to mention, wash day is a much more pleasant experience since I can easily access my products and more importantly nothing is leaking out!
I must say, the Ikea KALLAX Shelving Unit is very simple and quick to set-up. It took me about 45 mins to set-up (start to finish). Cleaning out my products and deciding what to keep and toss, took the longest. I mainly threw away products that I haven't used in the last year. I really tried to keep it simple and keep products that I intend on using/trying-out in the next few months. Also, I was harbouring a lot of empty bottles, which took up tons of useful space. I picked up two (2) storage boxes and placed them in the shelves for items such as my flat iron, curling iron, heating cap, plastic shower caps, mixing bowl, Flexi rods, perm rods etc. These storage boxes are a gem!! Love them :)
So far I'm loving my new shelving. I've organized my products by category i.e. shampoos, co-wash conditioners, protein treatments, moisture deep conditioners etc. if you haven't noticed :) Organization is key!! I love how functional my shelf is now - plus it's a time saver and it looks much more appealing to the eye!
Have you done your product spring cleaning? Where do you store your hair products?
Product Re-stock: Keracare Humecto and Scurl No Drip Activator (Original)
My Products Wednesday, November 26, 2014
I re-stocked on a couple of my staple products. I'm a lover of Keracare Humecto Creme Conditioner! I've been using it for the past 2-3 years and my hair just loves it. I use it on damp hair after I shampoo, after a protein treatment or on dry hair under my steamer. This deep conditioner provides slip, moisture, detangling and softness all in one. I just love the 5lbs tub it comes in! When you have MBL hair, packaging is everything. This tub lasts forever! Though I try new products, I always return to my creamy KHCC :)
Scurl No Drip has been my staple moisturizer for years. In 2013, Luster's changed the original Scurl No Drip ingredients and my hair disliked it - unfortunately!! Now, finding the Original formula is like finding a needle in a hay stack since it's discontinued! Luckily for me, I was able to find the Original Scurl No Drip Activator at a Beauty Supply Store a few towns away from where I live. Yes - I will travel for my products..LOL. You have no IDEA how ECSTATIC I was to have found the original formula. Without hesitation, of course, I grabbed all the Scurl they had left. Sorry... not so sorry! I had to stock up because who knows when I'll find the original moisturizer again. I'm always on the hunt...ugh!!
Overall I'm happy with my purchases! This stash should last me a while :)
Would you travel for your staple hair products? Share your opinions. I know I'm not the only one :)
I'm currently approaching 14 weeks post relaxer and my hair is feeling like butter because I used this mixture!! One of my favourite Moisturizing Deep Conditioning mixtures consists of:
- 5 tbsp of Keracare Humecto (tub)
- 1 tsp of EVOO
- 1 tsp of Avocado Oil
- 1 tsp of Coconut Oil
- 1 tsp of JBCO
- Shot of Porosity Control Conditioner!
I find this mixture great for hydrating my new growth and keeping my line of demarcation (where the new growth and relaxed hair meet) full of elasticity.
Typically, I use this mixture under my steamer for 30 mins :)

What moisturizing deep conditioners/mixtures do you use while stretching your relaxer or to seriously hydrate your hair when it's really thirsty?
