Silk Elements MegaSilk Moisturizing Treatment

Monday, November 03, 2008

Promises: MegaSilk is a rich, creamy conditioner that strengthens, softens and restores moisture from the inside out. Deep conditioning properties reduce tangles. Gives an intense shine and manageability without product buildup. Great for detangling and ease of combing. Adds an intense shine!

Directions: Shampoo thoroughly and towel dry hair. Apply Moisturizing treatment from roots to ends. Leave on hair for 2-5 mins. Rinse well. Style as desired. For more intense conditioning, cover hair with a plastic cap and use moderate dryer heat for 5-7 minutes.

Ingredients: Water(Aqua), Cetearyl Alcohol, Behentrimonium, Methosulfate, Glycerin, Amodimethicone, Cetyl esters, Sodium PCA, Fragrance (Parfum), Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Trideceth-12, Silk Amino Acids, Helianthus, Annuus (Sunflower Seed) oil, Chlorhexidine, Dihydrochloride, Cetrimonium Chloride, Yellow 5 (CI 19140)

The Truth: After the huge discussion about this product on BHM, I decided to get it (BOGO @ Sally's last month). I tried this treatment about 4 times (btwn 9-12 wks post relaxer) because I was so shocked with the results, I thought it was by fluke. I'm not trying to hype up this conditioner but to be honest I am 12 weeks post & I must say that I really like how it detangles, softens, moisturizes all in one shot! It does not weigh your hair down & It leaves your new growth so soft. I don't know why it took me this long to try it out. I'm happy I did. In a battle of moisturizing deep conditioners, I'd say this one would win and kick Elasta QP DPR's butt. So move over DPR-11, there's a new sheriff in town, Silk Elements MegaSilk Moisturizing Treatment (man thats a long name..lol)!!

Price: $1.39 CAD a packet, 16oz $11-15 CAD

****Update****
This is a great moisturizing conditioner to use after a protein treatment!!

Hairlicious Rating: (5/5) Excellent

  1. oooh, why am I soooo excited to read this review? I managed to fight the creamy crack urge and am now 20 weeks post. Due to the season change, my DPR-11 just wasn't hacking it. I switched to NTM Deep Recovery Hair Mask, which proved to be good, but it has cones I think. But the slip was unbelievable.

However, that junk is expensive and I need something that will provide similar results for a better price.

    Cool, I want this now!

  4. JUST! went to Sally's this Sunday and saw this on sale, and was gonna get it, but thought, I think I have enough deep conditioners, but then realized, when I got home, that most were protein deep conditoners. I will definitely go back and get this. Thanks for the review.

  11. Im so sorry If Im turning you ladies into PJ's but I had to speak the truth. Right now this conditioner is sale @ Sally's. I really think it beat DPR-11 simply because you don't have to mix it with anything.

  15. Funny, this is the worst product my hair ever got to know :))tried it 3 times: on prepoo, on DC with heat, and on DC with no heat. No matter what , this thing surely knows how to create HUUGE knots in my hair. Bought it before reading your review, Sunshyne and gave it a last try after, will never use it again.

  16. Sorry to hear that Anonymous - Right now It's out of my regimen. It was a great conditioner but I felt like I didn't really need it. Currently, I've found better things and you will too.

  17. I was looking at this in Sally's yesterday but figured the same thing as one of the other ladies that commented, that I have enough DCs.
I'll have to keep this in mind though. Quick question: For the Elasta QP DPR-11, what were you adding to it to make it better and with what measurements? Thanks!!

  18. I just bought the Olive Oil kind and I'm wondering if you've tried that. It seems like it would be better. I've never tried the regular though.

  19. I use this stuff too, and it's pretty amazing!
The only thing I really dislike is how strong it makes my hair smell!

  20. OK so I use this as my staple along with your 3PO, and it is like deep-conditioning heaven. I mix 4 teaspons of SE and then 2 each of olive, coconut and avocado, and I have never found it more difficult to not touch my hair. Have been doing this 2x per week and almost no hairs come out anymore on the comb. Hair is so soft, smooth yet strong. When I first started, I thought all those videos of people who combed and didn't lose hair were just lucky - I am now happy to realise that consistency with the right product really does pay off and I am motivated to continue to do right by my hair.

I encourage everyone to try this. With most conditioners, you read some good, some bad results. This one just works period - haven't heard 1 bad thing said about it. I tried this out of desperation because me hair was in a wretched state and I am SO glad i did. Thank you Sunshyne!!!!

P.S I miss your regular posts. What's going on girl, come back?!!
