The Castor Oil Challenge on Hairlista.com began Feb 7th 2009 - April 7th 2009. I ended the challenge a bit early (March 31st 2009) because I had to relax April 1st. I have to admit the challenge went really well. The pictures and growth speak for itself. I didn't face any adversities along the way, which is a plus.

I applied Jamaican Black Castor Oil to my scalp every wash day (twice a week). I immediately noticed more growth, softer new growth, thicker roots, and an increase in moisture. I even notice the hair around my nape is much longer and thicker than before, which is a huge plus. This challenge came in at the right time.

I desire to be BSL by summer 2009 and I think I'm very close to my goal. Jamaican Black Castor Oil is now a staple of mine, well let's just say Castor Oil period!

I highly recommend Castor oil to be a part of your regimen if you desire more hair growth.

Tip: Try not to stretch your relaxers out too long when applying Castor oil to your scalp. Once you reach 10 weeks post or so, you have more than enough new growth to relax. Anything longer than 10 weeks would be quite difficult to manage.

  5. OMG Sunshyne!...your hair growth is impressive in such a short amount of time. I really wanted to join this challenge but I was afraid it would make my hair look too oily since I wear my hair down almost everyday. How did you wear your hair during this challenge, did you wear protective styles the entire time? I would live to try the castor oil but I'm just not in to wearing a bun everyday. Your advise is appreciated. Thanks!

  12. WOWWWWW!!! Ok I heard about using castor oil maybe a month or two ago because I find that my hair is thin and when I looked at a few hair forums Castor Oil i saw that would help with growth and thickness. So I rub a little into my scalp daily (I am over zealous lol) and I was inspired by you and KISS to start cowashing. And I must admit that I love the results so far. I will have to wait and see during my next relaxer how well the castor oil is working. Thanks for the post on getting thicker hair! Very helpful in helping me figure out what will work.

  22. Hi Sunshyne, I recently started the CO treatment and would like to know how long do you leave the co in your hair? I don't have time to wash my hair in the morning, after I put the co on my scalp, so is it safe to leave in until later that night?

@ MJL & Sky- I leave the castor oil on my scalp until the next wash day. It's safe to leave it on for long periods of time.
