Have Your Say: What Do You Love About Your Hair?

Tuesday, April 29, 2014

Throughout our hair journeys, there comes a point where we have to stop and reflect on the reasons as to why we've decided to embark upon this journey, as well as, what we love about where we are in the midst of this journey.

Majority of the time, we are so caught up in focusing on our hair goals and concentrating on getting to the 'next level', that we don't sit back and reflect on all the little positive milestones and goals we've achieved in between. As the old saying goes, sometimes we need to stop and smell the roses

We need to appreciate how far we've come, what we learned along the way and what we love most about our hair. It's only right that we celebrate our hair, at any point in our hair journeys, whether it's relaxed or natural.

So my question is:

"What do you love about your hair, at this present moment in your hair journey? and Why?"

  1. I love the thickness of my hair despite it being relaxed. I also love its current length (grazing BSL) because am able to do stuff with it that i couldn't before (eg bunning without the use of a hair tie or bobby pins!), i also love how my braidouts turn out nowadays ~Joyce

  4. I love that I actually have hair. Often times I get caught up in the moment and focus on the negatives rather than the positives.

  5. I love the fact that I am at peace with my hair. I am 59 years old will be 60. Thank to all you lovely ladies I have learned what my hair likes and how to take care of it. I am relaxed and 16 weeks post. I, now, know how to manage my new growth. I plan to stretch my relaxer for 6 months. I wish I had all this information years ago, however, better late than never. Almost APL and growing.

  6. So true. I love that my hair curls easily so styling is a breeze, and I love that it's darker again- damage discoloured it 2 years ago. I also love something I used to dislike: the slower-growing, shorter layers in front. Now that the
Middle and back are so long, it's nice to have these shorter, face framing layers

  7. I love how versatile my hair is! I can braid it up, twist it out, press it flat and slick it into a bun. It's also so so soft.

Thank you for making me take the time to appreciate my hair as it is right now, rather than always focusing on the next thing/goal.

  8. What I love about my hair right now is how soft and strong it is! Before I started my journey my hair would look nice for a few days (after getting it done at the salon) and then it would progressively get worse and I wouldn't know what to do with it. Now that I wash my hair every week and deep condition and do all that good hair journey stuff, it feels amazing! Right now I'm taking some growth aids so it's growing like crazy. I just love my relaxed hair so much more now!

  13. Hi Sunshyne!

Since I became a member in February 2014, I did not love my hair at all. I tried for years to "care" for my hair only to run across scissor, relaxer happy people. Don't get me wrong, I was in fault as well. I never knew how to take care of my hair (late bloomer).

After trail and error, I have found a hair salon which actually cares about the maintenance of my hair. As I began to see the changes in my hair as well as my behavior towards it, I begin to educate myself more about my hair. This is were I ran into your youtube videos! Excellent by the way! I started with your first video and continued each video with excitement.

By the way, when are you going to continue your youtube video legacy?

To summarize, Through it all, I am now in the process of enjoying the process of managing my hair and loving it. Thank you.

  14. I love my natural hair color. It's dark brown, but lightens in the summer. Most of my hair turns a chestnut-y brown and the edges turn almost blonde! But the best part is that underneath my hair at the sides (if I were to go comb all the hair over from one side to the next) is a reddish-brown.

Also - what heat protectants do you recommend?

    1. Oh wow that sounds beautiful!! I love your unique hair colour. As for heat protectants, I like to use One n Only Argan Oil as my heat protectant. I've also tried Creme of Nature serum, and Fantasia IC Serum without any issues.
